Clip for a Cause

Introduction:

The Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA) is an independent tax-exempt voluntary organization with the philosophy that a volunteer or a breast cancer survivor uses their experience to help another woman recovering from breast cancer. BCWA provides psychosocial support such as hospital visits and group sharing, non medical aids such as prosthesis and wigs, public education such as breast health workshops and breast self examination (BSE) demonstration to individuals, organizations and schools.

Why not give up your hair to show you care!

By signing up to take part in the Breast Cancer Welfare Association’s Clip for a Cause and giving up your hair to show you care you will be helping to protect Malaysian women from the most common cancer diagnosed in Malaysian women, breast cancer.

This handbook will help you understand the Clip for a Cause concept and teach you how to organise a Clip for a Cause event and raise vital funds for patient support services.

Of course, above all we want you to have fun! Clip for a Cause is an event that puts the ‘fun’ in fundraising. Get your friends, family and co-workers involved so they too can join the fight against breast cancer.

Why Clip for Cancer?

One in twenty Malaysian women will be affected by breast cancer in their lifetime. For most women diagnosed with breast cancer, losing their hair is part of the cancer journey. By hosting a Clip for a Cause event you are ensuring that no woman has to take their breast cancer journey alone.

Aim of Clip for a Cause:

• To raise awareness and funds to support women affected by breast cancer in Malaysia.

The concept

Those taking part in Clip for a Cause volunteer to have their head shaved, clipped or coloured to raise funds for women affected by breast cancer.

The person having their head shaved/clipped sets a fundraising target which if reached will see them have their hair taken off. They then approach their friends, colleagues and family to make a donation to help them reach their target.

Some workplaces, colleges and schools choose to have multiple people giving up their hair to show they care. This option is a lot of fun and becomes quite a spectacle to watch.
