Social and Recreational Activities
Indoor and outdoor sports and recreational activities have been included in recent years. Social activities are organised so that inter-personal relationships, not possible during discussions, may be formed and at the same time women gain from these informal therapeutic sessions.
One such activity is dragon boat paddling. Our dragon boat paddling team, the Pink Challengers practices on weekends and participate in national and international races. Dragon boat paddling by the courageous members of the Pink Challengers team has garnered numerous achievements, such as:
- Being role models for newly diagnosed women, thereby creating a new meaning of hope and healing
- Demonstrating that breast cancer need not be a "death sentence"
- Facilitating the improvement of quality of life for cancer survivors
- Opening up new opportunities to healthy, fun-filled and benefit finding activities after breast cancer
- Acting as a catalyst for change in the attitude of the public towards breast cancer
- Generating a "Wow" factor regarding breast cancer survivorship amongst the members of the public and the media
- Relaying the message that early detection and timely treatment can save lives
