Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA)
Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA) was founded in 1986 by medical specialists, who realised the need for peer support for women with breast cancer. It is a tax-exempt organisation registered with the Registrar of Societies Malaysia in 1988, and a member of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and Reach to Recovery International (RRI).
BCWA has a two-pronged approach in its services:
i) Improving the quality of life for women with breast cancer using the Reach to Recovery concept of psychosocial and material support
ii) Reducing the risk of premature mortality by providing public education, early detection of breast cancer and navigation of women for further investigations and timely medical treatment

Yang Berbahagia Puan Sri Datin Seri Dato’ Akmal Abdul Salam D.I.M.P
Patron, BCWA
Yang Berbahagia Puan Sri Datin Seri Dato’ Akmal Abdul Salam has dedicated her time and effort towards charity work. In her position as chairman of Puteri DRB Hicom (1998-2005), she was instrumental in engaging the staff of the company in helping the needy. She was Patron of BCWA (2005 – present) and also Patron of NCD Alliance Malaysia in 2014-2016. As Patron of BCWA, Puan Sri also represented BCWA as a plenary speaker at the Reach To Recovery International Breast Cancer Support Conference in Cape Town in 2013.
She was conferred the title of Dato’ Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Pahang in 2005.
She is the founder and chairman of Beauty Unlimited Malaysia Sdn Bhd which organizes and manages events, weddings, and private functions.
Puan Sri is married to Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohd Saleh Sulong and they are blessed with three sons, two daughters-in-law and seven grandchildren.
Puan Sri’s hobbies include singing, dancing, baking, travelling and socializing.
